10 Ways To Declutter Your Life Today

Often it can be overwhelming to declutter especially if you havent done it in a while and you hate it but it doesnt have to be stressful and you dont have to declutter your entire house in one day. Doing it gradually is the easiest way to do it because you're less likely to give up (in my experience anyway). If you tackle one area in your life at a go it can be very therapeutic and can take a weight off your shoulders.

1. Delete phone contacts
I didnt realise how many peoples old numbers I had in my contact who I havent even spoken to in years or dont need anymore until I went through them the other day. I still had my orthodontists number and I havent had braces on for almost 2 years now.

2. Magazines
If you're anything like me you begrudge throwing away (well recycling away) old magazines because they arent cheap. I dont buy magazines often but when I do Im not going to throw away a Vogue magazine straight away because they are so expensive or maybe you saved a magazine because theres a recipe in there you'd like to try. But before you know it you have a stack of magazines covered in dust. This is such an easy way to declutter your space.

3. Throw away old makeup
I had kept some of my first few lipsticks I ever owned until a few months ago. I just couldnt bear to throw them away because I loved them so much when I first got them but then I thought "why the heck am I keeping an old lipstick that I'll never wear again?" It was just silly and now I have more room in my dressing table.

4. Clear your spice cupboard
I bet if you went through your spices right now you'll find at least one thats expired. It easy to leave some old spices neglected at the back of your cupboard and before you know it they are 2 years out of date.

5. Socks
The amount of socks I still kept with holes in them is kinda embarrassing. I didnt even notice until I took my shoes off in front of someone and they pointed out the holes. Now you can recycle the material or use them as old rags to dust so please go out and replace your threat bear old socks.

6. Click unfollow
I think often people feel guilty about unfollowing people on social media but why? We dont have to follow everyone online so dont feel bad about unfollowing old school classmates you havent seen in 5 years or that one friend who is super whiny on twitter.

7. Books
If you are a book worm like I am I know it can be hard to get rid of books but you have books you know you're not going to read again then why not pass them on to a friend or donate then. Books can be really pretty decor but they also take up a lot of space.

8. Car glove box
This little compartment can become a quick throw away area of your car. Go through it every few months and take those extra pairs of sunglasses inside.

9. Receipts
This is a bit of an obvious one but going through your receipts every week or so stops them from adding up and leaving your bag and purse bulging with pieces of paper.

10. Mugs
We have so many mugs in our house but we only use the same few that always stay at the front of our cupboard so go through the mugs that have been pushed into the back corner and decide if you want to keep it and use it or donate them.

Whats one area of your home you dread decluttering?

  1. I laughed at the spice cupboard one - I did this a few weeks ago and there were a few really old ones! I had newer bottles of the ones I threw out but don't understand how or why I let that happen! xx

  6. I've definitely been into decluttering lately and having less stuff everywhere congesting my life. There is something so liberating about not having too much stuff whether it's old contacts, following people you no longer vibe or having clothes you no longer wear.
