My Most Loved Makeup Products of 2016 | Benefit, NYX, Urban Decay & More

Thursday, 22 December 2016

2016 has been quite the year! There have been so many new makeup releases and I have discovered some incredible makeup brands and products thanks to the beauty blogging world. Ive probably (definitely) spend too much money on makeup this year but I don't smoke, drink or party so I spend my money on makeup instead. And coffee of course! Mmm I am craving Costas salted caramel cappuccino right now. If you havent tried it you should drive to costa asap and buy yourself one and you can thank me later!
The other day when I was moving rooms, which was very stressful might I add, I was re-organising my makeup and I noticed how many new pieces I had bought this year so I grabbed all of my favourites and pilled them up in a basket ready for this post. And blimey, I have a lot! I pretty much use most of these products every single day without fail unless Im going for a different lip or base but honestly thats pretty rare. So if you're ever interested in my "everyday" makeup, it is all shown here.

Base
Lets start with my completion. For foundation I have been completely obsessed with the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation. OMG this foundation is on a different level from the other ones I have tried. It lasts all day on my combo/oily skin and the coverage is fantastic. Ive even gotten my sister onto it and she loves it. The only downside is it doesnt come with a pump which is annoying when you are in a hurry but honestly I couldnt care less about that because its such an incredible foundation. I wear the colour 'Ecru' but its a bit dark for me at the moment. One of my most recent purchases has been the Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer in the shade 'Fair Neutral' and I dont know how Ive done my makeup without it. Ive been trying to buy it for months but everytime I would try they would never have my shade in stock. Its a super full coverage and hides my awfully dark bags due to lack of sleep and my health problems, its long wearing concealer and doesnt budge as long as you set it straight away. I actually like to bake my undereyes with the Seventeen Miracle Matte loose powder which is really cheap and it really wont move. And to insure that my makeup doesnt budge I love the Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray and its a real life saver for oily skin.

Cheeks
All of my cheek favourites this year are all new discoveries of mine. For bronzer/contour the real winner for me is the classic Benefit 'Hoola' its a perfect matte brown that doesnt leave your face looking orange and muddy. I cant believe its taken me this long to purchase this bronzer, I always eyed it up at the Benefit counter but I never bought it for some reason.
My blushes of choice have been the Makeup geek blush pans in the colours 'Spellbound' - a beautiful baby pink, and 'Soulmate' which is a deeper plum pink and a bit of a change for my normal colour of choice and they are both a matte finish. This year I have been introduced to highlighters and I couldnt do my makeup without them now. My favourites are two of the classics for most bloggers and its 'TheBalm Mary-Lou manizer' and the MAC 'Soft and Gentle' mineralize skinfinish. These are two quite different highlighters, TheBalm one is a beautiful champagne that gives you the lit within glow and can be built up to an intense highlight and the MAC one is a warm toned golden peach shade and its lovely for the summer time but it can definitely be worn in the winter too.

Eyes
I was definitely drawn into the hype of these eyeshadow palettes. My first favourite is the Too Faced 'Chocolate Bar' palette which contains 16 matte and shimmery shades, from a pink to purples and bronze shades that all smell like chocolate. The packaging even looks like a bar of chocolate which is a genius move by Too Faced.  Of course my second fave is the Morphe 35W palette- what a surprise. Im going to be honest, the first few months I had it I didnt understand the hype and I never used it but I started playing around with it recently and it quickly became my go to palette for everyday and travel. You have a couple of matte shades but the majority have some shimmer in them and you get 35 different shades so you can basically create any makeup look you want.
By far my favourite bases have been the Maybelline colour tattoo in 'on and on bronze' and 'pink gold' and whats great about them is you can wear them on their own and they look great. I mostly wear them on my lid and then blend them into my crease with another eyeshadow. Now this post wouldnt be my favourites of 2016 without mentioning the Makeup Geek eyeshadows. They are amazing shadows and they are so affordable and such high quality. Personally, I prefer them to the MAC ones. If I had to choose my 5 favourites they would deffo be 'Shimma Shimma', 'Creme Brulee', 'Grandstand', 'Showtime' and 'Morocco'.
For lashes and brows, my holy grail products are the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara and Benefits Goof Proof brow pencil. The lash sensational mascara does a fantastic job of lengthening, curling and volumising your lashes and I dont have the longest and fullest lashes but this mascara makes me look like I have falsies on. The Benefit brow pencil is such an easy pencil to use because its a waxy formula so you can blend it out easily and apply it effortlessly. I have the second shade and it suited my blonde hair and now suites my dark blonde hair.

Lips
Now onto my favourite part- lips. I couldn't live without lipstick (and mascara) and I own far too many and they are all pretty similar shades but I need 12 different nude lipsticks in my life ok??! My first fave is the NYX Matte Lip creme in the colour 'London'. This is a beautiful light brown nude and Im actually surprised I still have some left because I have used it so much. Its one of those lippies that go with every makeup look and occasion. The Maybelline coloursensational lipstick in the shade 'Tantalizing Taupe' is another everyday and easy shade to use and it smells like candy floss!!
For MAC lipsticks, for me you just cant beat 'Brave', 'Pure Zen' and 'Modesty'. They are all nude lipsticks which is obviously a trend of mine here and the MAC lipsticks are my all time favourite lipstick formulas and I want to collect them all honestly. If I am looking to wear something a bit darker and bolder but still sticking with a nude I adore the Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte liquid lipstick in 'Everything Nice'. The formula of these are just perfect. Everything about this one is perfect actually. Its a bolder nude and its more of a brown, deep pink/plum if that makes any sense! Haha! The formula isn't drying at all and it really does last all day without much transfer at all. I really, really want to buy more of these liquid lipsticks I love them so much.

Phew, that was a long post! I could rave about these products all day..

What have been some of your favourite products from this year?
